Here are some common question we get about our Slug Rings and Slug Rows:
Do copper slug rings really deter slugs and snails?
Slug Rings definately repel slugs and snails if used correctly. They are not failsafe though and we recommend they are used in combination with other wildlife friendly pest management strategies for best effect such as morning watering, night time slug hunts and nematodes.
How does copper deter slugs and snails?
There is very little solid research on this! Some suggestions are that the copper creates a mild electrical tingle that repels the slugs and snails, other suggestions are that there is something in the slug and snail slime that reacts with copper to create a bad taste that repels them. All we know is that we have filmed many hundreds of slugs and snails attempting to climb the copper and they all seem to find it very unpleasant.
Are copper slug rings safe for pets?
Absolutely! The rings are 100% copper and have no sharp edges to harm animals or humans :)
Will copper slug rings ever stop working?
As your Slug Rings and Rows are 100% copper, they will continue to work forever. We do advise you give them a good clean to remove any dirt or residue build up regularly for best efficacy.
Can I make a bigger ring out of Slug Rings to protect bigger plants?
Yes! Our clever closure mechanism means you can easily slot two or more rings together to create something much bigger if you need. See How To Use > Instructional videos for how to do this.
How do I use slug rings with containers or pots?
Absolutely. We have a whole section to demonstrate this, just check out How To Use > Pots in our menu.
Can you ship Slug Rings to Europe?
Unfortunately since Brexit we have found shipping outside the UK increasingly expensive and unreliable. To overcome this we now sell via our Amazon store all over Europe! No need to pay extra VAT for imports or huge shipping costs. Please check out our Non UK Customers page in the menu for links to all our EU stores.
Do I need to clean my Slug Rings?
Slug Rings do need cleaning. Over time they will be splashed with dirty water and this builds up a residue on the surface that reduces the slug and snails contact with the copper.
How do I clean my Slug Rings and Slug Rows?
Slug Rings can be cleaned with warm water and a stiff brush, a little washing up liquid, or if you want to make them shiny and bright again you could even use wire wool and white vinegar! As long as they are smooth and shiny they will work regardless of whether they are bright copper, aged brown or even a beautiful vedigris.
Does copper hurt slugs and snails?
Based on how many times they attempt to cross the rings, we assume it can't hurt them much if at all!
How do I encourage slug and snail predators to my garden?
Check out How To Use > Blogs >What eats slugs and snails?
Can you send Slug Rings as a gift?
Slug Rings make a brilliant gift for gardeners. We even sell them as a Gift Set which can include extra goodies and a handwritten card!
